Chesapeake Bay Observing System User Forum Information
The goal of the CBOS User Forum on December 4, 2007 is to engage a broad group of Chesapeake Bay community interests that require observational data and information products for human safety, maritime, hazard, and security operations, and the health, productivity, and sustainability of all living resources in the Bay. We plan to highlight CBOS progress and products to date, especially relevant to two specific pilots -- the Chesapeake Inundation Prediction System (CIPS), and the Chesapeake Bay Interpretive Buoy System (CBIBS). Registration is required: http://cbos.org/cbos-user-forum/registration/

The goal of the CBOS User Forum on December 4, 2007 is to engage a broad group of Chesapeake Bay community interests that require observational data and information products for human safety, maritime, hazard, and security operations, and the health, productivity, and sustainability of all living resources in the Bay. We plan to highlight CBOS progress and products to date, especially relevant to two specific pilots:
1. The Chesapeake Inundation Prediction System (CIPS), and
2. The Chesapeake Bay Interpretive Buoy System (CBIBS).
The CBOS User Forum is planned around three themes:- Severe weather, Storm-tide and Inundation (CIPS)
- Maritime Operations / Right Whale avoidance
- Water quality, conservation, education and recreation (CBIBS)
The venue for this workshop will be the Half Moon Cruise and Celebration Center in Norfolk,
VA home of the Port
of Virginia and the world’s largest
naval base. We expect to attract 100
attendees, representing interests as diverse as recreational fishing,
commercial shipping, Navy, Coast Guard, and other users of observational data
and model forecasts.
About The Chesapeake Bay Observing System (CBOS)
The vision of the Chesapeake Bay Observing System is to create and enhance a network of fundamental, real-time and verifiable observations with related metadata, archived data, and information products that meet the needs of the CB community. These operational data and information products will reflect decision-making and forecasting needs of the commercial, management, recreational, educational, scientific, research, regulatory, safety, and hazard sectors as outlined under the primary objectives of the Mid-Atlantic Coastal Ocean Observing Regional Association (MACOORA) and the U.S. Integrated Ocean Observing System (IOOS).
