David, as administrator, is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the large non-profit Hampton Roads Maritime Association (HRMA) in Norfolk, Virginia. With a membership of over 400 businesses directly or indirectly engaged in the maritime industry, he plays a key role in the HRMA mission—to encourage, promote, and protect commercial shipping through the busy Port of Hampton Roads. Before assuming this administrative role, David worked in both management and sales in the domestic and intermodal trucking industry. He graduated from the College of William and Mary in 1987 with a B.B.A. in Business Administration.
David also is active in several maritime-related parent and regional organizations, including the National Association of Maritime Organizations (NAMO), the Marine Information System of North America (MISNA), the South Atlantic Maritime Transportation System Organization (SAMTSO), and the Future of Hampton Roads. In addition, he is a member of several local business and trade organizations.
Given David works closely with businesses and stakeholders engaged in every aspect of waterborne trade, and serves as a maritime-industry advocate at national, state, and local levels, he brings a user perspective that is critical to the realization of at least several MACOORA objectives. As the HRMA Administrator, David also brings experience in the day-to-day operation of a large non-profit organization, which fits well with current MACOORA needs. He also has considerable experience in organizing membership activities, coordinating events and publications, and, increasingly, raising funds, all of which are essential for MACOORA development.
